Sitting majestically atop Albany’s State Street hill, the New York State Capitol has served as the seat of government for New York since the 1880s. The building is a marvel of late 19th-century architectural grandeur, built by hand of solid masonry over a period of 25 years. Today the building is undergoing extensive restoration to maintain and protect it for future generations of New Yorkers. Many of the restorations are complete, so even if you have seen the Capitol before, you won’t want to miss this exclusive opportunity to take the updated tour with other LIFE Conference attendees.
The NYS Office of General Services will facilitate a guided tour of the New York State Capitol Building on Tuesday, May 22. There is no cost to attend the tour, but a reservation is required. The tour group will leave the Albany Capitol Center lobby promptly at 5:45 pm. Please note that transportation to and from the Capitol Building is the responsibility of the tour participant. The Capitol Building is located 0.3 miles from the Albany Capitol Center. Participants are invited to walk together as a group, but Lyft and Uber car services are available in Albany.
The Public Utility Law Project will provide a training that instructs attorneys on the rights conferred by Article 2 of the Public Service Law that pertains to the right of the consumer to obtain and maintain utility services; the availability of public assistance and financial programs to assist residential customers experiencing either the threat of, or actual termination of utility services; and statutes, regulations, and case law supporting New York’s public policy of maintaining energy service; and the implementation of energy efficiency and conservation as cost-containment measures.
Attorneys and interested parties attending ONLY the attorney training on May 22 will pay a $50 registration fee for the training. Financial assistance is available for attorneys with income at or below $50,000/annual, as required by the New York State Unified Court System. For those attorneys registering for the full Conference, the attorney training is included in the full conference registration fee.
LIFE has established a scholarship to assist individuals from nonprofit organizations, government agencies, tribal organizations, and educational institutions who are unable to afford the cost of conference registration.
The scholarship application deadline has past. Please contact LIFE@nyserda.ny.gov with questions.
As part of the LIFE 2018 Statewide Conference, the LIFE Steering Committee will honor those individuals who have made extraordinary efforts towards addressing the issue of energy affordability for low-income New Yorkers.
